Saltram House is just outside Plymouth and is well worth a visit.  Saltram is owned by the National Trust and is a magnificently presented Georgian House with opulent Robert Adam interiors, gardens, follies and landscaped parkland.  The Café and Shop areas are superb and the garden has something to offer anytime of the year.

Dartmouth is set at the mouth of the River Dart and is famous for its Naval College and deep natural harbour providing safe haven for some sizeable visiting ships (largest cruise ships ever visiting during 2010).  The Town is less than half an hour from Toad Hall and offers numerous activities from boat trips up the river as far as Totnes, or visit Agatha Christies home, Greenway. You must take the short trip to the Castle at the very mouth of the River.  If you’re not one who enjoys boat trips there are the numerous Art and Craft shops that can be found in and around the old streets.  Whatever your preference Dartmouth guarantees a great day out.

Bantham Beach offers something for everyone.  The Beautiful sandy beach, with gorgeous warm rock pools are great for the kids to play and discover in.  The Beach is monitored by lifeguards making swimming in shallow waters safe. There are dedicated areas set aside for the avid surfer.

Opposite the beach you can see the beach of Bigbury on Sea and Burgh Island where several Agatha Christie films were produced.  Bantham is a must for every one

If you are a boat fan, Salcombe, just 15 minutes away, is one of the most beautiful waterside Towns in the South Hams area offering a safe haven for a wealth of boats and the famous Island Cruising Club.  There is always a buzz in Salcombe whatever time of year you visit.  Superb eating places compliment the wealth of leading brands clothing stores.

Take the ferry across to Portlemouth Beach which is an absolute suntrap, or, if you are not the beach type there is a wonderful National Trust cliff walk.  Salcombe, an absolute must!

The South Hams area of South Devon is renowned for its wealth of diversity.  From Dartmoor in the North to Salcombe in the South, there is so much to do and see.  Whether you love surfing, bird-watching, walking, fishing, sailing or just relaxing on the beach enjoying a good book, South Hams, and particularly Bantham’s famous surf beach is a perfect place to start.  There is masses of information at the Kingsbridge Tourist Information Centre  but for now here are a few of our favourite places that you might like to visit.
